What are your opening hours?

7:00am to 5:00pm Monday to Friday.

Can I have a hose made on the spot?
Yes you can. Come in and we can fabricate while you wait.

What kind of repairs do you offer?
We offer repairs to all earthmoving machinery, stationary machinery, on-site welding and servicing.

Do you service emergency break downs?
Yes we do.

Do you charge a call out fee?
Yes we do, $60 + GST per hour

Do you supply o-rings?
Yes we do. Call or come in to the workshop with your requirements and we will be able to help you out.

Do you supply bucket teeth?

Yes we do. We hold a large range of bucket teeth on the premises and have quick access to any other size or type required.

Can hydraulic cylinders be repaired?
Cylinders are not a complicated type of hydraulic component therefore they are relatively easy to repair unless they are badly damaged that replacement is the only course of action that makes sense.

How much does it cost to repair a hydraulic cylinder?

It can cost anywhere from $50 to a few thousand dollars.

How do you diagnose a bad hydraulic cylinder?

  • You start hearing banging noises
  • Your hydraulic cylinder starts juddering
  • Your power bill goes up
  • The actuator starts to slow down
  • Your cylinder starts to get too hot
  • The piston rod is wearing on one side

What is the difference between a single and a double acting cylinder?
A single acting cylinder only provides force one way. A double acting cylinder provides force when extending and retracting.

Can a hydraulic pump be rebuilt?
Pumps can be repaired as long as their dimensions, tolerances and clearances are all within the right prescribed limit. However, sometimes it makes more economic sense to carry out a full rebuild.

How can I tell if a hydraulic pump is bad?
Pump trouble is usually characterised by increased noise, increased heat, erratic operation of cylinders, difficulty or inability to develop full output, decreased speed of cylinders or hydraulic motors, or failure of the system to wok at all.

Why is my hydraulic pump leaking?
Hydraulic pump leaks are caused by fluid bypassing the pump shaft and leaking out. A hydraulic pump is a two-part machine with the two parts connected by a shaft. These seals also see extreme temperature swings and have to hold back hydraulic oil which can be abrasive.

Can you repair a hydraulic hose?

There are two ways to cut and mend a high-pressure or hydraulic hose. The first way is to use a mender by putting a physical piece inside the hose and crimping it on both ends. The other way to mend a hose is to put two threaded pieces on either side of the splice and put a coupler in the middle.

SCTR can repair your hose or fabricate a new one while you wait.

When should hydraulic systems be reconditioned?
Hydraulic cylinders should be removed and reconditioned or replaced every 3 to 5 years depending on their use.

What is the difference between BSPT and BSPP?
BSPT is a British standard taper thread with 55 degree angle. BSPP does not need any O-ring or bonded seal to form a seal.

What is the difference between crimping and swaging?

Crimping and swaging are both techniques used to create water and airtight seals around components like hydraulic hoses. The result is very similar, but the process behind getting them to that point is what differs.

Crimping involves using a powerful crimping machine to apply pressure in all directions to a hose coupling to create a tight seal. The pressure is applied evenly through a die that closes slowly, one time only.

Swaging involves quick continuous closures to shape an angular coupling down to a smaller, sealed circular shape. The constant, high-pressure closing shapes the coupling around the hydraulic hose, creating the circular shape.

Is UNF the same as UNC?
There are two general types of SAE bolts (sometimes referred to as machine screws). UNF (fine thread pitch) has more threads per inch than the same diameter bolt in the UNC (coarse thread pitch).
